I’m off…Marco Van Basten leaves Ajax

Great Player, Good coach? not sure

Great Player ? YES, Good coach ? not sure

So the story between Ajax Amsterdam and Marco Van Basten (the coach) didn’t long only 10 months (since July 2008), Van Basten resigned as Ajax Amsterdam coach and according to the statement by Ajax:

The main reason for Van Basten resigning was he concluded that he didn’t meet his goals and he doesn’t have the feeling he is capable of improving next season

Van Basten last game as Ajax coach was away from home against Sparta which ended with a humilating lose for Ajax (4-0) in 3rd of May, added to the previous humiltaing lost to their rivals PSV (6-2) apart from these bad results the Eredivisie you can add:

  • October 2008 Heerenveen – Ajax 5:2
  • February 2009 – Vitesse – Ajax 4:1

Ajax is 3rd place in the table standing played 33 games in the Eredivisie (Won 20 – Draw 5 – lost 8), Ajax under his management never been consistant and they look chacky even if they lost their influential striker Huntelaar to Real Madrid.

Van Basten coached Holland National team for four years they crashed out the World Cup 2006 by Portugal in the second round, while in Euro 2008 they eleminated by Russia in the Quarter finals (3-1). Many pundits doubts Van Basten Managerial briliance to match his player status.

Good Bye Marco 😦
